This nature poem combines my love and appreciation of spring with my Christian faith, so I was torn as to whether to include this poem in the nature category. However, I felt that it captured the gentility and the feelings that Springtime evokes, as well as having an unusual rhyme pattern, so I hope that I can be excused for sharing it in the general category too. It also includes alliteration and some metaphors.
I love that phase of sunny days
When nature paints a scene
And creatures laze in spring’s sweet haze;
A picture so serene.
I can’t describe the feelings exploding in my heart
I simply know there cannot be a finer work of art.
A young foal neighs, then skips and plays
On nature’s trampoline.
Its mother stays, and stoops to gaze
On luscious fields of green.
I can’t explain the mystery of nature, or reveal
What captivates my heart and gives these scenes divine appeal.
One of these days, I’ll find a phrase
To capture what I mean;
For now I’ll raise my hands in praise
To God for all I’ve seen.
