Perfect for a mixed age or all school performance,
this fun bible based 25 minute nativity play is told….
- through a rhyming narration by the innkeeper’s wife
- with lots of humour, attitude and sarcasm
- Using her pre-printed ‘diary’ so her story can be told
- by reading, (NO NEED TO LEARN)
- Including 24 short rhyming speaking parts (can easily be shared differently to adapt to smaller or larger cast. My church used this nativity script with 9 children!)
- It is flexible and adaptable for ANY CAST SIZE .
The script is ideal for older children to act the main characters, and younger children to do smaller parts and the singing, which uses familiar children’s tunes, with my own simple words as follows:
- The Wheels on the Bus (ie, All Day Long)
- Go Tell it on the Mountain (Go Find the Baby Jesus)
- Here we go Round the Mulberry Bush (This is the Way to Bethlehem)
- Once I caught a Fish Alive (1,2,3 Wise Men)
- She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain (Oh, It’s Nearly Christmas Day)
- And finally, my own composition….Sleep, Gentle Jesus
The script begins with the narrator and the Innkeeper’s Wife shaking hands on introduction with each other….
NARRATOR
Hello. I’m the narrator. (shake hands on introduction)
INNKEEPER’S WIFE
Hello. Innkeeper’s Wife….I’m married to that innkeeper (points to innkeeper as he trips)
(I’m pledged to him for life!) (she shakes her head in despair)
Now when you run a travel inn (I’m sure that you’d agree),
There always will be very many strange things that you see!
Well, here’s something that happened, one quite amazing night , (she can open her diary at this point as if looking for it)
When just above our stable a star was shining bright……
I’ll just look in my diary, it’s all here, written down….
Ah, here it is….”The Day That Baby Jesus Came to Town”
Well first of all I think I’d better try to set the scene:
I’ll start at the beginning, then you’ll know just what I mean.
It started when the Emperor got greedy for yet more
And more of people’s money, so he made a special law….
SOLDIER
“Listen up, you rotten lot, there’s no time to relax (a printed scroll is included to read from)
Caesar needs to find a way to gather up more tax.
So go back to the place that is the town of your own worth.
When everyone has registered, we’ll know what Rome is worth!”
