POEM EXAMPLES OF CREATIVE WRITING

Listed below are poems which are my examples of creative writing. There is nothing complex about creative writing but in order to be imaginative we often need some kind of stimulation or idea to get us started. As with anything else, the more we do this, and the more we share ideas, the more natural and fast flowing these ideas will come to be. (Have you ever looked at cars from the front and noticed that some headlights look like angry eyes, and others like little puppy-dog eyes….or is that just me?! Since I noticed, I can’t help but see it all the more!)
Anyway, often my poems begin with a silly moment, or conversation which is extended by my childish thoughts, and I always find that the moments come from observing people and things around me. I love to write about aliens, for example, as the poem can go in any direction and be as silly and imaginative as the rhyming leads it to be. Sometimes I will begin with an idea for a punchline and work my way towards it (generally the FUNNY POEMS will begin this way) and other times I will be surprised at the progression of the story as it develops by following the lead of the rhyming (generally these become my SILLY POEMS). If you would like ideas for teaching creative writing to children and to stimulate ideas for them look at the TEACHERS PAGE, CREATIVE WRITING on the menu bar above. If you would like to just enjoy my own examples of creative writing poems they are listed below in alphabetical order, although they will also be duplicated into other specific poem categories mentioned above so that they can be found by other means.

Introducing……. You!

9 June 2015

This inspirational poem shares the same beginning as one of my Christian poems entitled “Who Am I?”, but “Introducing…..You!” is purpose written to make the reader think about who they are, so it makes a good introduction to a workshop on the topic. (See also “I am….”)   Today I met a stranger.  That stranger […]

I Am

9 June 2015

I very rarely write in free verse, but this poem felt too deep and expressive to be steered by anything but the emotions and memories as they flowed.   As a  rhyming poet I do not naturally appreciate free verse but, strangely, I found it easy to structure the verses of this particular poem according […]

A Poem With Purpose

An Encouragement Poem This encouragement, list poem is creatively written to include a list of metaphors and is a lovely encouragement to someone who doesn’t recognise their own value and purpose……   What is a poem if no-body reads it? What is a favour if no-body needs it? What is a present, if no-body gives? […]

Easter Poems   This is a fun Easter performance poem intended to be read by a teacher to the children at school on the morning when Easter bunny has visited!  It’s based on my memory of the paw prints left in our classroom each year when we found our Easter egg in class.   Last […]

God’s Tapestry

10 March 2013

The Tapestry of Life was started At the dawn of time. Within the pattern, even then, God saved a place for mine.  With every stitch the picture grew While crafted from above, And as God wove each new thread in He blended it with love.

Perspective

10 March 2013

I found a hillside all alone and wanted to befriend it. I felt its heart was broken, and I could help to mend it.  So as it broke its silence and it began to talk, I felt it needed company, so we began to walk.  And as we walked together, our hearts and minds […]

Mary and her Little Lamb

20 June 2012

This alternative story of Mary and her little lamb includes the original simile and a new metaphor.  Other than that, is just a silly poem using the same rhyme and rhythm pattern, but telling an entirely different story with not quite the same pleasantries as the original nursery rhyme!
