POEMS ABOUT ANIMALS

These are all of my poems which are about, or which mention animals. I have also provided a brief description of the figurative writing and poetic techniques that are used in each one to help you to ascertain which ones will be most useful in teaching or learning these specific things.

Consonance Classes

consonantsConsonant Classes

This silly alliteration poem does not use the usual repeating initial letters as alliteration ,but instead repeats the consonants and consonants blends, to demonstrate a specific type of alliteration called consonance.  It also includes one element of onomatopoeia.

Debra the Zebra did consonance classes
And Rodger the Badger did too;
Murtle the Turtle joined in the learning
In class at the consonance zoo. [click to continue…]

Poem about Easter bunny

Easter Poems

This is a fun Easter performance poem intended to be read by a teacher to the children at school on the morning when Easter bunny has visited!  It’s based on my memory of the paw prints left in our classroom each year when we found our Easter egg in class.

Last night we had a visitor
Who called upon our school.
They usually come in the day

This is nothing more than a silly poem based on the original nursery rhyme, and using the same rhyme and rhythm pattern.

Mary had a little lamb
Its fleece was dirty black

Mary and her Little Lamb

This cat poem is just a bit of rhyming fun with an obvious bit of word play in the title, but anyone who has ‘owned’ a cat will relate to the “Cattitude” that I am referring to!

Awe and Wonder

27 February 2012

This nature poem combines my love and appreciation of spring with my Christian faith, so I was torn as to whether to include this poem in the nature category.  However, I felt that it captured the gentility and the feelings that Springtime evokes, as well as having an unusual rhyme pattern, so I hope […]

A Bitter Pill

24 February 2012

This is just a fun rhyme and rhythm story poem, including exaggeration for effect (hyperbole), with one word play phrase too.  It is based on a true scenario that anyone who has ever owned a tom cat will probably be able to relate to!
