Christmas is not just a story
That’s told to make people feel great.
It’s more than a reason for presents
And parties as we celebrate.
It’s not just a time to catch up with
Our families and friends far away
Nor even for annual visits
To church on Christmas Day.
It’s not just to build happy memories
Of Christmases as they go by…..
These all are good ways to spend Christmas,
But also, we need to ask “Why?”
So why did God send His son Jesus?
Why send Him to earth as a child?
Why choose to make His birth so humble:
The baby so meek and so mild?
It’s more than a symbolic gesture.
He came from His throne up above
To show, without doubt, through His lifetime
The massive extent of His love.
If you use this poem to round off a nativity, use the following verse:
So now our nativity’s over
This message we’d like to make clear
That Jesus is not just for Christmas;
God’s gift is for all of the year.
If you would like to use this poem on a separate occasion to your nativity just adapt the first line of the last verse as appropriate…..
Ie, So now that our service is over
or
So as Christmas day is approaching
