Nature poems

Nature is the perfect inspiration for poetry. The beauty, design and purpose of the butterfly inspired this gentle conversational poem, which is full of figurative language, including examples of alliteration, personification and metaphors.

How beautiful the butterfly; heaven’s carefree alibi.
Apple of the artist’s eye; you’re picture perfect, butterfly.

Who is the great designer whose intensely close attention
To detail made a work of art beyond our comprehension?
Who aims for such perfection?  Whose work do we admire?
Whose artistry is on display as your wings lift you higher?

“Hello little butterfly,” springtime whispers with a sigh;
Watching, with delighted eye, she welcomes in the butterfly.

Personifying freedom, you dance upon the breeze,
Gently weaving through the springtime blossom on the trees.
Who has this love of symmetry and colourful design?
Who gifted you with elegance, so graciously divine?

Gentle, graceful butterfly, celebrating in the sky.
Loving life, you flutter by:  precious, playful butterfly.

Who gave you such an attitude and freed you for the flight?
Whose generosity and purpose brings the world delight?
Who blessed you with a carefree love and passion for creation
That you would share your blessings in the act of pollination?

Farewell friendly butterfly, flitting freely way up high,
Waving wistfully “Goodbye”; picture perfect butterfly.
