Creative Writing

This poem began as a reply to an email that I received which literally began with the words “Where do all your ideas come from?”  I couldn’t resist the temptation to answer in rhyme, to prove my point that every situation presents an opportunity to write!

Where do all my ideas come from?……..

I don’t know where to start!
Some come from things around me,
And some just from the heart.

Some from whole conversations,
Or just some token words.
Some come from silent sessions when
I listen to the birds.

Some come from personal moments
When I’m humbled by the truth.
At other times I love the
Immaturity of youth!

Some come from simple questions
(Like the one this title asks.)
Yet others from an interest in
Some fascinating facts.

But what is more important is
Where do ideas go?
How can we all ensure that our
Creative juices flow?

Well, all that I can say is that
You have to give it time,
And nurture your ideas
(Do not be hindered by the rhyme.)

Don’t aim to make it perfect and
Don’t fret about critique.
Work on your inner poet, and
Just practice your technique.

Let every tiny thing in life
Inspire another poem.
And when you think you’ve drawn a blank,
You haven’t! ….. Just keep going.

Continue writing often,
Keep improving on your skill,
For when ideas fail you
Persistence never will!

Another thought; don’t worry
If you get stuck on the way.
I leave some poems unfinished
And come back another day.

P.s. the rhythm’s tricky….
But, you’ll get it in good time.
Just write, and later edit
All the rhythm and the rhyme.
