Full of amusing word play, this simple Mothers’ Day performance poem is very effective with just a few basic baking props, and a child dressed in an apron. I have provided a downloadable picture sheet containing each of the ingredients that are added to the recipe to make “My Homebaked Mum”, so that they can be added to a mixing bowl as the poem is recited by a class or group of children.
My Homebaked Mum
Let’s do some home-baking:
I love the smell.
When something’s home-baked
You can always tell.
This recipe’s special,
Really unique;
A one in a million
Amazing treat.
Start with a cup
Overflowing with love,
Fold in the comfort
And peace of a dove.
Now throw in some laughter,
Crack a few jokes,
Stir in some mischief,
Some tickles and pokes.
Take care with embarrassment;
Don’t overdo,
Then add nutty moments
(But only a few!)
Add heaps of compassion
And cuddles to taste,
Then simmer with patience;
Let none go to waste.
Blend in understanding
And flavour with care,
Then mix with an unselfish
Urge to share.
Sprinkle encouragement,
Top off with fun
(Be careful you don’t
Let the mixture run!)
Bring to the boil
With rare imperfection
Then add some determined
And helpful direction.
Serve up with kindness
And endless devotion
(With just the occasional
Crazy notion!)
Savour the flavour….
The baking is done!
That lovely aroma’s…..
My Home – Baked
MmmmmMum.
