A Poem for the Teacher

I wrote this poem on one of those occasions
when I wanted to write a poem,
but couldn’t think of anything to write about –
so that became my topic!

I’ve got to write a poem, I don’t know what to say.
The trouble is, my teacher wants it handing in today.

He sent me with some poems, and said they would inspire,
But generally the rhythm and the rhyming were just diabolical!

I mostly like the poems with rhythm and with rhyme,
But when I try to write I cannot end the verse in time.

Hang on, I think I did it! I’ve not done that before.
I think I’m getting better as I gradually do more.

But now I need a subject.  I haven’t got a clue.
I don’t do soft and mushy stuff, so what am I to do?

I’m sorry sir, I’m giving in.  I’ll never make a poet.

You sure?
I think you always were, but simply didn’t know it.

  A good effort
