Bradley Mulladley Mulloon
This is known as a nonsense poem for obvious reasons! One of my favourite poets is Dr Seuss who wrote “The Cat in The Hat”, and I’ve tried to copy his style here by repeating one rhyming phoneme all the way through, spelt in the same way. Dr Seuss often did this as a way of building up the confidence of young readers.
As a result, this poem uses lots of alliteration, assonance and consonance.
Now this tale is of Bradley Mulladley Mulloon
Who decided he wanted to go to the moon
But sadly our Bradley was quite the buffoon
Planning to go by the power of a spoon.
So he sailed on a spoon on the Longley lagoon
Like a character out of a crazy cartoon
Till he happened upon a hot air balloon
That silly young Bradley Mulladley Mulloon.
“This new mode of transport will get me there soon”
Said gladly our Bradley Mulladley Mulloon
Then with sponsorship from a local tycoon
He re-planned his mission to get to the moon.
The next day our Bradley Mulladley Mulloon
With all the intelligence of a baboon
Set off expecting to get there by noon
Abandoning promptly due to the monsoon.
Then Mum said “quick Bradley Mulladley Mulloon
I’ll shoot you up there, climb aboard this harpoon.”
She fired it up into a whirling typhoon
Which tossed our young Bradley right up to the moon.
This tale is not just of a bumbling goon
Who achieved his life mission that strange afternoon.
It’s the reason I’m certain the man in the moon
Is a happy young Bradley Mulladley Mulloon.
