Silly Poems

Teachers and children alike will be able to relate to this silly children’s list poem about the consequences of cockling on chairs, which includes several examples of alliteration, and a couple of examples of onomatopoeia

Five silly children cockling on their chairs
All of a sudden they were caught unawares……

Trip went the teacher, walking to the door
Bang went the child who fell to the floor.

Four silly children cockling on their chairs
All of a sudden they were caught unawares……

Slip went the polish, and slid the chair’s leg
Bang went a child and bumped his head.

Three silly children cockling on their chairs
All of a sudden they were caught unawares……

Crack went the chair, and crumpled underneath
Bang went a child, knocking out two teeth.

Two silly children cockling on their chairs
All of a sudden they were caught unawares……

Topple went the chair, overbalancing back
Bang went the child and his head went SMACK!

One silly child cockling on his chair
All of a sudden, danger was there……

PUSH!…went the joker, without a second thought
Bang went the child; there’s another one distraught!

Five silly children are off to hospital.
Five silly children, feeling miserable.
Five silly children suffering in pain.
Poor little children! You’ll not do THAT again!
