An Always Person

This list poem is a fantastic encouragement to the ‘Always children’ who can so easily be overlooked and feel unnoticed as they never have any one special moment  for which to be rewarded or encouraged.   This poem can be printed and personalised as a lovely presentation certificate or as a poster for the classroom wall.

I’m an ‘Always Person’: I always do my best.
I always set a very good example for the rest.

I always listen carefully. I’m always so polite.
I always try my very best to do whatever’s right.

I’m always on my best behaviour, as you would expect.
I always do whatever I should do to show respect.

Yes, I’m an always person; we’re sometimes hard to see
But from today I’ll always know my teacher’s noticed me.

Positive reinforcement is a wonderful teaching technique, but so often the children who always do their best can feel overlooked whilst others are praised for one good day of behaviour.  I love the idea of these children being acknowledged so that they feel noticed and appreciated for their ‘always’ behaviour, so have made this poem into a certificate which can be downloaded, printed  and personalised for presentation.  Maybe you could even start a monthly ‘Always Club’ so that anyone nominated as an ‘Always Child’ during a given period of time could enjoy time together and a simple treat : it could be as simple as enjoying toast as an afternoon snack as they have an afternoon doing crafts together.  This special treatment would also serve as a motivation to other children to aim for consistency in their behaviour.
