Easter: Just for me?

cross

I have often heard the following questions.  In fact I have asked them myself……….

  • What has Easter got to do with me?
  • Why is it relevant?
  • Why did Jesus have to die anyway?

This poem is the answer to my own questioning.  I hope that it makes Easter more relevant to you too.

Why die for me upon a cross:
What difference did it make?
How did that act affect my life;
How was it for my sake?

Why did I need such sacrifice?
Please Lord, help me to see:
How could such pain and suffering
Be relevant to me?

The sadness of betrayal;
Rejected by your friends;
The mockery and cruelty…..
The list just never ends.

The loneliness of suffering
When others stayed away;
The feeling of abandonment
On that, your darkest day.

Is that how you relate to me?
Is that how you can know
Exactly what my needs are
At the times when I feel low?

Or is that why I needed you;
To pay for all my crimes?
For, doubtless, I have been the cause
Of pain to some at times.

But Lord, I know in heaven that
There will be no more pain:
No sadness, loss or suffering……
Just perfect joy again.

And so I long to take my place
In heaven finally…
And thankfully I can for,
When you died, you died for me!
