Mary Had a Little lamb

by angela on June 20, 2012

This is nothing more than a silly poem based on the original nursery rhyme, and using the same rhyme and rhythm pattern.

Mary had a little lamb
Its fleece was dirty black
For everywhere that Mary went
She dragged it on its back.

The trouble was that Mary’s lamb
Was not a real sheep
But rather, just a cuddly toy
She nicked from Miss Bo-Peep.

(The word “nicked is a colloquialism for ‘stole’)

This poem is a firm favourite amongst the children in the ‘Fun With Poetry’ assemblies that I have run in primary schools, and resulted in inspiring another poem entitled “Mary had Another Lamb”.  Both poems are in my book “The Good, The Mad and the Ugly: A Collection of Angela’s Poems” (RRP £5.99)
