My Mum’s Menagerie

This silly word play poem is full of lots of animal sayings that have double meanings. |
My throat is a little hoarse
My Mum said yesterday
I thought that was the strangest thing
For anyone to say.
horse |
frog
Especially when, earlier,
She had a frog in it.
Do animals surround my mother
Every single minute?
But, now I think about it;
She is a little weird…
Today she told me that my uncle’s
Grown a goaty beard!
goat |
cheetah
Apparently, when he played cards
He said that he would beat her,
But then I heard her saying that
She’d played against a cheater.
She hates the hair upon her head;
And last night couldn’t sleep…
A herd besieged her bedroom
Leaving my mum counting sheep. |
hare
sheep
Duck
Rabbit
I’m thankful, I’ve not seen her bare,
Although, I’ve seen her duck.
I’ve often heard her rabbit
Well, I guess that’s just my luck.
I do wish all these creatures
Would just leave my Mum alone
I think that she should be declared
An animal-free zone.
