Someone Special

All you need is love
This Mother’s Day Performance poem is deliberately non-exclusive to Mums, so that it can be used even if you have some children in your class or group who are cared for by someone other than Mum.  Maybe each child could draw a picture of their own Mum or carer, and the poem / song could be performed within the context of a Mothers day assembly, whilst still therefore including those children who are sadly without a Mum, or cared for by someone else.

Alternatively, this poem can be performed to music, by fitting the lyrics to the tune of  ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’.

Someone Special

We all need someone special
On whom we can rely,
Someone who believes in us
And doesn’t need to try.
We all need some encouragement,
A little helping hand;
Someone who will care enough
To try and understand.

We need someone to notice,
We need someone to care;
And when we have a problem
That someone’s always there.
They share in our achievements;
And help us celebrate,
They give us self-belief
And keep repeating that we’re great!

Whoever we are blessed with,
Whoever plays this role,
Whoever shares their love with us,
And makes our lives feel whole:
Today’s the chance to celebrate
These special people too.
I hope, by now, you’ve realised
My Someone Special’s YOU!
