The Power of The Written Word

This encouragement, performance poem, written with rhyme and rhythm, very clearly puts across my belief that the written word has real power, and encourages every child to learn to develop that skill to use it to their maximum potential.

Today I’ve finally got it! I’ve got my inspiration,
After weeks of constant studying, and beads of perspiration.
I’ll write a whole collection of poems for my book
Expecting, in the future, that a child will take a look.

Then hopefully that child will see that he or she could be
A truly great, fantastic poet: In fact, better than me!
For then my poems will surely have achieved a winning goal,
When they put pen to paper and write with heart and soul.

You see, the written word is such a fascinating tool:
It surely should not live within the confines of a school.
It’s meant to be wide-reaching; It’s meant to change the world,
But as with many things it must be gradually unfurled.

Its mystery unravelled. Its potential slowly seen;
Its power’s undeniable when the writer’s keen.
So find yourself a mission and reach up for the stars.
Ignore the critics saying that you live on planet Mars.

If you’re not ready to believe in yourself – just who will?
In time I’d really love to leave my shoes for you to fill.
So have a go, and take a risk; I know you’ll be just great.
Don’t leave potential unfulfilled, till it becomes too late.

You’re reading this and questioning  ”Who is she talking to?”

Don’t look around, pick up your pen…..

THE ONE I MEAN IS YOU!
