Tesco:YOUR Comments Have Been Noted! Poem 3

by angela on May 6, 2012

This is the third and current poem in our campaign….please send it to philip.clarke@uk.tesco.com  to persuade Tesco to sell ONLY FAIRTRADE BANANAS, so that we can be assured that the plantation owners are receiving a fair price.

Click here to download the poem and save it to your computer ready to send.   We have made a difference already (although Tesco didn’t acknowledge it!) as their overly priced Fairtrade Organic bananas were reduced in December from £1.55 to £1.40, the pre-campaign price!  They do Fairtrade a dis-service by pricing them so highly, as the Fairtrade premium on each banana is less than 1 pence!

If you would like to know the history of the campaign and to read the first poem that started it all off, click here.

This third poem is in response to a brief and rather uninterested acknowledgement letter that all of the campaigners received when they sent poem 2 entitled “Tesco: £VERY LITTLE HELP$” which simply stated that “our comments have been noted”  hence, the campaign poem title…..

Tesco: YOUR Comments Have Been Noted!  Poem 3

Hello there.  Is that Tesco?
I’d like another word.
We’ve done 3 campaign letters, but
You don’t seem to have heard!

Please can I have an update on
Our campaign for Fairtrade?
I’d like to know how much of
An impression that we’ve made.

You see, so far, you’ve given the
Impression you don’t care.
You ‘sell’ Fairtrade bananas
But there’s rarely any there!

(Interesting….I remember:
Yes, I could have sworn
You said they were unpopular:
That’s why they were withdrawn!)

I’ve seen that you’ve reduced the price:
It’s back to £1.40
Although, it seems, your motive isn’t pure
But rather naughty….

 It’s just a token gesture!
There’s clearly something lacking…
Fairtrade bananas, in your stores,
Just do not have your backing!

 If customer opinion
Makes a difference to you
How is it, in our thousands,
That we’re still not getting through?

 Tesco Trading Fairly? NO!
You look out for yourselves!
We want to see ONLY FAIRTRADE
BANANAS on your shelves?!

You’ve told us all our “comments
Have been noted.”  Thanks a lot!
Have you rethought your policy?
It’s obvious you’ve not!

So “Every Little Helps” you say:
Well, not so in this case!
Your words don’t make a difference
SO PUT FAIRTRADE IN THEIR PLACE!

Campaigners, you are crucial.
The fat cat’s getting bloated!
Send THIS poem to tell Tesco
Their comments have been noted!
