This poem is the second campaign poem that I wrote to Tesco in protest of their lack of support for Fairtrade bananas. Click here to understand what brought the campaign into being, and to see the first campaign poem that I (and everyone who agrees with the sentiment) sent to Tesco.
(More importantly, help us to persuade Tesco to sell ONLY FAIRTRADE BANANAS by sending the current campaign poem. Click here to download it.) We all received an immediate ”apology’ for discontinuing their Fairtrade bananas which ‘explained’ that “space is limited and many new and exciting products come on the market regularly. To make space for these, we sometimes need to make the decision to stop selling some of our less popular lines to make room for the new product ranges”.
(They replaced the Fairtrade bananas with………non-Fairtrade bananas!)
Hence, this next campaign poem contained the obvious sarcasm! (They also advised us that they have their own “Fairly Trading Policy” which is commented on in response. ) You can watch the poem performed on the video above, or if you would like to download poem 2 click here, or read it below.
Tesco: £VERY LITTLE HELP$ Poem 3
A new exciting product? Forgive the puzzled face….
You dropped FairTrade bananas, then put bananas in their place!
Oh, that’s so exciting! I can’t survive the shock!
Okay. Sarcasm over…. You know that’s poppycock.
Okay, so you police yourself….Whoopee diddley doo!
I’m guessing that’s much cheaper and easier for you.
I’m glad you have a policy that’s right across the board,
Although, to me, as an excuse, your strategy is flawed…..
Where is the reinvestment? Where is the helping hand?
Your answer tells me clearly that you STILL don’t understand.
FairTrade speak for the voiceless. They stand up for their cause.
This independent charity has opened many doors.
You’ve tried to reinvent the wheel: why not support FairTrade?
You’ve said yourself the difference that THEIR reinvestments made.
You say that “Every Little Helps” and that’s my motto too……
I took my small step for FairTrade; I’m scuppered now by you!
By all means have your policy and stand by a fair code
But recognise, in fairness, it’s too middle of the road.
Your “Trading Fairly” programme has its place, but alongside
The trusted FairTrade logo: THIS CAMPAIGN WILL NOT SUBSIDE!
I don’t mean to offend you, it’s just that I must say….
The FairTrade logo means much more than your word any day!
We know you like your profits. Businesses all do….
So I’ll just stick to FairTrade, if it’s all the same to you!
And so, campaign supporters (if you still stand with me)
Send Philip Clarke this answer too to tell him you agree.
